For many of us, it is not easy to slow down mentally or physically. In our fast-paced lives, we aren't used to it. As a trained Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, I will guide you in this process to maximize the enjoyment and the health benefits..
We guide in all kinds of weather, unless if it would be dangerous to do so such as lightning or high winds. As the Scandinavians say, "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing." Being OVER-prepared is recommended. When you are still, you will be more cool.
Please dress comfortably and appropriately for walking, sitting on the ground and moving through nature. Consider dressing in layers and bringing one layer more than you would for a walk outside in similar weather.
Please bring water, and consider other comfort measures such as a hat, gloves, walking stick, and/or portable stool or camp chair.
Feel free to bring a small backpack for your things and a journal if so inclined.
Insects are super important beings on our planet and ones that fascinate us. That doesn't mean we want them too close to us, though, so I usually have Ranger Ready Picaridin available at Walks. Feel free to bring a repellent of your choosing to discourage ticks and mosquito bites. I also recommend a shower after being in nature.
There is usually a restroom or portable toilet at the trailhead.
Locations vary, depending on several variables (like weather, number of guests and accommodating participants capabilities). You will be advised where to meet for your specific event.
Location Options Include:
--Properties of Lancaster Conservancy (such as Shiprock, Climbers Run, etc.)
--Parks in York County
--Parks in Lancaster County
--the Mills family farm known as A Quiet Place (25 acres of woodlands and very small creek)
OUTDOOR events:
If you can walk less than a mile on uneven ground, yes.
If you can sit, stand or walk for 2.5 hours, yes.
If you can carry a cushion or camp chair, or sit on the ground, yes.
If you are unable do the above, please request an accomodation. There are also locations that could still facilitate participation outdoors. For example, if you bring your own cane, wheelchair/scooter there are more level locations available for your Nature Therapy experience and ADA restroom facilities sometimes as well. Ask us at time of registration for accommodation. We would be glad to accomodate you.
INDOOR events:
If you can sit or lay indoors, an indoor nature experience can be arranged as well.
